Galena Footbridge in the Mist

Welcome to GalenaPhotos.com - Photos by Peter Fraterdeus
Galena, Illinois is an historic town in an unique and picturesque corner of the state.
The geological forces which have shaped the Great Plains and left behind the Great Lakes have instead left Galena, and the Driftless bio-region, unscathed. Three successive glaciations passed on either side of this region, leaving the high ground to be slowly worn by the trickle of streams and the flooding of the Mississippi into the meandering hollows and ''coolees'' we see today.
I travel the region extensively, from Galena and Dubuque. and the Mississippi Palisades, in the south-east, to Mt. Vernon and Iowa City in the south-west, to Viroqua and La Crosse, Wisconsin to the North. You'll also find photos from another favorite Wisconsin site, on the shores of Lake Superior, the Chequamegon Bay and Apostle Islands.
These images are available as archival eight-color giclée (fine art inkjet) prints. They are also available for commercial licensing.
